Park at the upper level of Granite Pier - Wharf Rd. Find the Motif #1 copy and continue further on to walk under the bridge on the path leading to the quarry. This POPULAR WALKING PATH goes all the way around Flat Ledge (John Swan's) quarry.
Follow the waterline. Think about the name of the cache.
This is a great view of a quarry and the pier that they used to ship the cut stone out from. Looking into Flat Ledge (John Swan's) Quarry you can see the huge amount of material they took out from here. They cut granite slabs and then moved them to working areas to cut them into paving blocks for the cities on the east coast.
It took 4 years to cut the opening to the harbor and only 11 weeks to build the granite bridge that you walked under. It is put together with a keystone and no mortar was used. They worked these quarries for about 100 years, from 1830's - 1930's.
