The name Medernach is motivated by the indo-germanic word ahwa(water) and is composed of Medern(local term/object) and acha(water). First humans already lived here in the Stone Age in/under caves. During the Iron Age arrived the Celts and began massively to settle down and agriculture. Round and in the town were also a few Roman settlements: villas and mosaics. A Roman road passed in the high regions of the area.
In the 19th and until mid 20th century this small village was really vivid and a typical farmer town with lots of taverns(11) and some shops, it even had factories! The Jhangeli train passed here through, too. The old track is now a nice biketrack. Furthermore the village was one of the very few where jewish familys had settled down. They were a really important part of Miedernach and very active in the economical as well as the cultural life.
There are still some clubs since 1930 the Fanfare, the FC Blo-Waiss, the DT "Olympic" and the Radio ROM.
The municipality of Medernach and Ermsdorf fused in 2012 and so a maison relais as well as a new football area will be built. This municipality is now called Ärenzdall Gemeng. Once a year there is the Weekend vun den Lëtzebuerger Produkter showing products(mostly food) from the region.

The tour is all in all easy, except the exact cache location which is why the terrain level is so high. Before you enter the cache place you will find a bench. Leave best your family here, no stroller accessibility anymore. I highly recommend a flashlight and good shoes, your clothes might get dirty.
