SCC - Leopold Woods Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is placed with permission of Story County Conservation at Leopold Woods to the north of Ames. Please adhere to park rules and posted park hours.
This set of woods was named after the great Aldo Leopold, a pioneer and friend of natural resource conservation practices. Leopold was born in Iowa and spent a great deal of his time teaching the fundamentals of conservation preservation and responsible environmental ethics all over the world. Some of you may have read his book "A Sand County Almanac" that was written in 1949 and published shortly after his death. For more information about Aldo Leopold, please visit http://www.aldoleopold.org
NOTE ON PARKING - as you enter the park, please take note that the drive directly north of the entrance is private property. If you have a four-wheel drive vehicle you can take the park road (west at entrance) back to within about 100' of the cache location. If not, you'll probably have to park at the entrance and walk back into the woods (it's only a few hundred feet back there). It's best to take the primitive park road back for a ways, even if your walking to avoid bushwhacking.
The cache container is located in the thicker part of the woods but I didn't have any trouble getting an accurate reading on the GPSer. You are searching for a small l-n-l container painted black. You'll find a log sheet, pencil and some small trinkets. It's probably large enough to fit a few geocoins or pathtags, but probably not any travel bugs. "FTF" pathtag for first finder.
*Congrats to my friends dawnandgary on the FTF!*
