Geocache Description:

Cache will be found at the end of a pleasant five-minute walk on an infrequently traveled path along the Mattapan side of the Neponset. Park in small lot off River St. at 42 16 206, 71 05 218. NOTE: cache is on an old wooded trail on the north (i.e. Mattapan) side of the river, NOT on the nearby paved Neponset River Greenway. Cache is a small plastic vial and has only a log and a pencil nub.

Nearby is the extension of the popular Neponset River Greenway, a walking/biking trail that runs through Hyde Park, Milton, Mattapan and Dorchester.It was completed and opened in Spring 2017. The cache, however, is NOT on the new, paved Greenway. It's an unpaved trail on the north (Mattapan) side of the river. You may see herons, geese and ducks – hey, it’s a river! – among other birds. Another treat: you can both hear and catch views of the famous Mattapan High-Speed Trolley line (http://tinyurl.com/4vn6ygr), running along the opposite side of the river. The historic PCC trolley cars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCC_streetcar ) date from the 1940’s and versions of them were used across the country. Today they are found mostly in transportation museums. Here in Boston, we’ve kept them in working order and they serve thousands of residents daily.
