Gosforth is a suburb of Newcastle, found just North of the City beyond Jesmond and The Town Moor. The origin of the area's name may come from the title “Gese Ford” meaning “the ford over the Ouse”. However, an alternative view is that it comes from the Old English Gosaford meaning “a ford where the geese dwell”, and it is first recorded as Goseford in 1166.
Gosforth High Street has been home to local shops for over a hundred years, with most of its buildings dating from the later period of the 19th Century. Many shops have come and gone over the years. In bygone times, this particular corner of the High St. was where, in 1888, James R. Davison established his chemist's shop and occupied the premises until about 1950. The building itself, next to the post box, is no longer occupied by a chemist.
Parking on the High Street itself is not allowed (although try telling that to some…) but there are plenty of public car parks in the nearby vicinity. Nearest Metro stops are South Gosforth and Regent Centre while there are is a multitude of bus services supporting the High Street.
This is a magnetic cache & please bring your own pencil. Beware, muggle quota likely to be pretty high during daytime.
