We have had to move the cache a few feet due to the fact that dog owners were not cleaning up after their dogs and this was making searching for the cache a rather unpleasant experience [:(]
We have passed this site many times on our walks to the breakwater park and the views are lovely.
Cache is at the top of the hill. You are looking for a nano cache.
There is only room to put initials when signing the log.
In good weather there will be a lot of muggle activity in the area so please be careful.
The path towards the cache has recently been made much more accessible for pushchairs. Little Dragon has been walking this path (or cadging a piggy back off Daddy Dragon) for years. Just be careful with little ones as they may fall down into the brambles.
The area has seen many changes, from being a noisy, dirty place of industry for many years, beginning in the 1840’s with the building of the breakwater. Part of Holyhead mountain was blasted away to provide stone to be used as foundations for the breakwater. In more recent years the quarry was a brickworks, which closed in the early 1970’s.
During the 70’s and 80’s the quarry was a dusty, derelict place where local children played.
The transformation into the breakwater park that we see now, complete with duckpond and café began in the 1990’s. It is now a peaceful place to come with the family to feed the ducks, have a picnic, and take a stroll around the old quarry area.
There is an information centre and some old parts of the brickworks remain for exploration.
There are a few caches in the area and a good days walk can be enjoyed if you are to take them all in. You can park at the breakwater park and take in the breakwater and mountain caches. Parking is no longer free as the council have recently installed parking meters
This is our first cache and we hope you enjoy doing it
