Geocache Description:

Most people do not know the difference between a hare and a rabbit. A rabbit is smaller than a hare and has shorter legs and ears. A hare has strong legs and the tips of its ears are black. A rabbit lives in burrows in the ground where it raises its young. The hare lives in the open and has no home, depending on speed for safety.

Anyway…there are some really crazy hare and rabbit superstitions! I did not make any of these up.LOL! Here are a few of them:

  • If an old hare runs across the path of a pregnant woman, her child will have a harelip…unless she can tear a slit in one of her undergarments.

  • It is unlucky for a pregnant woman to see a hare sitting. If she sees the white tuft on the end of its tail, her child will be born with a harelip.

  • If you rub a baby’s gums with the brains of a rabbit, the baby will teethe without pain.

  • To be an infallible talisman, a rabbit’s foot must be the left hind foot of the rabbit when a cross-eyed person kills it during a full moon.
