Geocache Description:

Part of the Ballpark series. Cache has room for small trade items. Please make sure the cache is secure when re-hiding.

Williamson Field is home to the Darlington High Falcons and prior to this, home to the St. Johns High Blue Devils and the Darlington Post 13 American Legion Team. Williamson Field is one the oldest fields in the region, still sporting an all concrete wall (the entire field is still surrounded by a concrete wall).

In the spring of 1996, St. Johns High had a storybook ending to their last year of existence (the school would merge with Mayo to form Darlington High the following school year). The last athletic event of the Blue Devils history was St. Johns winning the baseball state championship that season. That team was lead by Major League All Star Orland Hudson, former USC wide reciever Brian Scott and Julius Dixon, who would become an junior college All-American outfielder a few years later at Florence-Darlington Tech.

The 2011 Darlington Falcons finished with their best season in school history since the St. John's/Mayo merger. Highlights included winning the Hartsville Preseason Tournament, sweeping the defending region champ Marlboro County, winning the Region 6-AAA title and winning the District 6 title in the playoffs. The Falcons made it to the lower state final four before falling to Class AAA power AC Flora.
