The cache location was
chosen to encourage geocaching travellers to depart from the
"beaten track" and get some dust on their vehicles and feet.
The cache title was chosen because we knew we would easily find a
"special site" to place the cache, but later realised that there
are so many places of the same "genus" along the road, that we
simply placed the cache at a convenient spot more or less halfway
along the road (at a good "Pee and T" stop with a view)
Gen(i)us Loci thus seemed a fitting description, as this one is all
about the journey and not the destination...

You will travel
through farmers land, so please act responsibly and travel the
(slow) speed limit required.
Do not enter roads demarcated as "No Entry", and leave all gates in
the condition you find them, either open or closed.
Stay on the road or verge, as geocachers do not trespass!
Above all, do not purloin crops along the route to supplement your
next meal, or kill small animals.
Despite the appearance
in places, the road is open to public traffic, and
confirmation as such is published in various sources (amongst
others a current off-road Western Cape GPS map set, and a road
atlas issued by a popular publishing house)
There is thus no need to feel furtive en-route.
The farm Morestêr has a controlled gate at the northern end of the
dirt road, which is secured from sun-down through sun-up.
Generally there is a guard present, who will open for you "after
hours" should the absolute need arise...
- Our recommendation is
to travel the road in daylight hours with time to spare, or you
will miss out on the scenery.
- The road is only
surfaced in part, and you will encounter loose gravel, sand or
thickish mud dependant on season and specific location.
If possible use should be made of a vehicle with above average
clearance.
- During the rain
season there is a low level causeway that floods, and caution needs
to be exercised in crossing this feature.
- Keep an eye out for
picturesque farm house ruins, incredible rock formations and an
abundance of water that will astonish you as you pass through the
arid landscape.

a zipped folder.
