A few months ago I asked O'Reviewer for advise on a multi-step cache I was working on to determine if it should be a mult-stage cache or a mystery cache. His reply was that:
Multi-stage had a physical cache to find at the first and subsequent stages.
Mystery cache had information to locate (such as on a sign) at the first step that was used to calculate the coordinates to next stage.
Following that wisdom, this is a two stage mystery cache. I had wanted to place a physical cache at the posted location but I doubt it would survive in such a harsh environment.
From the provided parking coordinates you will have to take a 0.4 mile walk out into the Delaware River on the breakwater to reach the published coordinates. You need to locate a brass circular bench mark that is on cement base of a light pole. No skirt to lift since this is actually more like a small light tower.
The bench mark will have a small circular center that contains "Station Designation T-1 etc". Directly above and below this on the bench mark is the 4 word name of the benchmark that starts with "Reedy"
A is the number of letters in the 3rd word.
BCD is the 3 digit number associated with imprisonment on the benchmark
Calculate: XYZ = 60 + BCD. You can find the final cache at:
39 D 33.A01 and 75 D 34.XYZ
Check sum. Add up A+X+Y+ Z and you should get 9
Now off to the final stage to do battle with some thorns
CAUTION: AT HIGH TIDE WATER CAN SPLASH UP AND GET ROCKS WET AND EVEN FOR SHORT SECTION SLIGHTLY COVER THE ROCKS. It is best to avoid doing this during high tide. You can check the tides at : Tide Chart
This is a very popular fishing area so expect lots of cars in the parking area and some company out on the jetty.
