Spokane started burning down somewhere around here August 4, 1889.
Bring your own writing utensil! This should be a good park and find! There is alot of muggle traffic around here, so be cool!

The Great Spokane Fire.
On August 4, 1889, a roaring fire swept northward to the river, between Monroe & Division Streets leveling 32 blocks. It reportedly started in a wood frame lunch & boarding house facing the railroad, tree lots east of Lincoln Street. The railroad, then at ground level, provided a fire break. Unfortunatly, the new water system was not functioning properly & there was no water pressure for the fire fighting. A resolute Spokane Spirit soon fostered rebuilding followed by phenomenal growth.
