The cache is located at the site of Bedford’s first railway station, now derelict.
It is placed just off a road on even ground and should be accessible to everyone, with parking available close by.
This cache is a 200 ml clip box. It is to be found next to an over grown area of land which until 1985 was St John’s railway station. Opened in 1846, this was the first station built in Bedford, serving the Oxford to Cambridge Railway line.
When this line was closed in 1968 the section between Bedford and Bletchley survived and trains continued to use the station. Then in 1984 a new St John’s station was created on the main midland line and this station was closed.
From the bridge to the side you get a better view into the site, where a few remnants of the station can still be seen.
The cache contains:
Log book
Pencil
Heart shaped rubber
Incredible hulk figure
Pound coin for FTF
