The cache is in between the picnic area, and the bowling green. It has been secured by a short length of wire, as it has tended to wander from the original location.
From the cache’s location you should be able to view the bowling green, skate /BMX park, tennis courts, standard size basketball court, a fenced in kiddies play park, and a smaller basketball court. Nearby there are refreshments throughout the holiday season. Picnic tables are in abundance all year round. The toilets are beside the parking location, which is given as a way point. The 18 hole pitch and put golf course is run by the local authority.
Towards the centre of the park you will come across a large fallen Lucombe Oak, which came down in light winds in February 2009. It was described as one of the largest trees in Devon which toppled over after dying of old age and a fungal attack. It had a girth of 7.91m and was probably over 250years old. It has been trimmed up, and is now used as a popular climbing area. A nice spot to sit while the young ones explore.
Phear Park takes it's name from Sir John Phear a victorian philanthropist who owned Marpool hall, which was situated where the bolwing club now stands. He gave this land to the people of Exmouth. The hall was occupied by American service men during the war prior to it being demolished in the 1950s. You can see the old stables for the hall nearby, which is now occupied by the local authority, and the small-bore rifle club. In the walled car park, which was once a garden for the hall, you will find the A.T.C. 299 squadron's premises.
