| Six Hundred SeventyEighth in the Famous People (FP) Series - Patrick Swayze |
 |
Patrick Wayne Swayze (August 18, 1952 – September 14, 2009) was born in Houston, Texas. He was best-known for his tough-guy roles, as romantic leading men in the hit films Dirty Dancing and Ghost and as Orry Main in the North and South television miniseries. He was named by People magazine as its "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991. His film and TV career spanned 30 years.
As a reaction to his father's death at age 57 from a heart attack in 1982, Swayze began to drink heavily. In 1989, Swayze said, "I've always felt there was something different in there (my personality), but I was scared to look for fear I wouldn't find anything. That's the reason I got into Buddhism, took est training, was into therapy, into Scientology, into Transcendental Meditation. I was trying to support that side of myself. But, you know, in Texas there isn't much support for that part of you."
You'll find any number of Swayze namesakes here in the Cottonwood Cemetery. Start by reading the Historical Marker near the old log cabin, answer the question and proceed to the final, which is a
waterproof matchstick container.
