Geocache Description:

This is one of three caches I have placed along the towpath of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal between Llanfoist and Llanellen. As the path is flat it is ideal for buggies and wheelchairs.

You are looking for a round, brown tub; please bring your own pen.

The canal runs from Brecon to Newport and much of its 35 mile length is within the Brecon Beacons National Park, it also passes through the Blaenavon World Heritage Site. As it is not linked to the rest of the canal network it is a fairly quiet waterway teaming with wildlife. This particular stretch of the canal is tree lined and hugs the Blorenge mountain and as such it is almost invisible from the Llanfoist to Blaenavon road.

This cache was inspired by a dear friend of mine as it is whilst I was walking along the tow path here that I heard the sad news that he had passed away suddenly.

Richard Thomas (1968 - 2011) AKA "The Barnsley Badger"

The best place to park is at Llanfoist Crossing, the canal can be accessed by walking up the road past Llanfoist church and then up some steps, this is also the start of the steeper route up the Blorenge.

For the less mobile there is limited parking at N51 48.248 W003 02.246 where a gate leads onto the towpath.

This cache was placed with the kind permission of British Waterways
