Geocache Description:

A fairly steep walk up a bridle path through Chafer woods.

This cache site gives beautiful views over the Vale of Pickering, and, if you feel up to it, you can continue on a circular walk through the woods on established paths, which are supported by theYorkshire Wildlife Trust. See their information board close to the start of the walk.
Off road parking for 2 to 3 cars is at N 54’ 14.215 W 000’ 37.283
From here follow the bridle path up the hill to King Alfred’s Cairn, which was built in 1770 to mark the site of a cave, where, according to legend, the Saxon King took refuge after a battle.
There is no public access to the actual cave, but do visit the cairn and admire the views.

NOTE: The cache is not placed in the cairn, but is about 260’ North of it.

The cache is a small clip lid container, with a log book and a few goodies.

Hope you enjoy it.
