Located above the Grey Mare's Tail, a breathtaking climb up Tail Burn to Loch Skeen will take you to the cache at an altitude of approx 550m/1800ft.
WARNING: There have been a number of fatalities in the area and the cache demands a moderate/high level of experience and fitness.
Sturdy, proper fitting walking boots with a good grip are essential (as mentioned in the warning signs located in the car park). Come prepared for all weather, the wind at the top of the hill will be around 10 times stronger and 10 times colder than at the car park. Hiking poles may come in handy. Paths up to Loch Skeen are well maintained. The round trip should take around 2.5 - 3.5 hours. There is a £2 donation to park at the National Trust carpark but is well worth it.
This geocache will be more enjoyable and safer after a spell of dry weather. Checking the weather forecast before you set off is a must.
Upon reaching the beautiful Loch Skeen (that seems to appear from nowhere) the cache is not far from here. Follow the path part way around the beginning of Loch Skeen where you may need to venture off the beaten track...the cache sits overlooking Loch Skeen.
The cache is well hidden and we would appreciate that is left well hidden after you leave as it is on a popular hiking trail.

PS - 22nd May 2016: We have been to the cache and carried out some maintenance. The box and logbook have been renewed and the cache has been raised a little to prevent most of the water damage.
