This cache is placed opposite one of Darlington integral landmarks. The factory and the "chimney" are a prominent feature on the skyline to the east of Darlington and can be seen as far away as Hurworth and Sadberge and even the North York Moors!
This particular company was founded in Columbus, Indiana, in 1919 by its namesake and was among one of the first companies to see the commercial potential of an unproven engine invented two decades earlier by Rudolph Diesel.
In 1933 the company released the Model H engine for use in the transportation industry. This engine launched the company's most successful engine family.
In 1940 it was the first company to offered a 100,000-mile warranty on their engines.
By the 1950s, America had embarked on a massive highway construction program, and their engines powered much of the equipment that built the roads.
This company and it’s co-owned but independent associate were attracted to Darlington in the early 1960’s by a Government Industrial Development Programme.
If you have children or animals please supervised them closely at this cache site as it is close to a busy road.
THIS CACHE IS NOT wheelchair accessible.
Please replace the cache carefully so that it's cannot be seen by the casual observer.
The cache should be big enough to hold some small TB and Geocoins.
