NOTE:

1. This cache is part of a series called "Toe Nail Trail Challenge" created by Mermaid, Horny Toad and Mommio.

2.You will need to copy the 3-character code found on the log and forward it to the cache owners when you have completed all the caches in the series. You may e-mail mommio for a scorecard on which to record your answers.

Phrynosoma are creatures of hot, dry, sandy environments. The numerous species have very wide, flattened bodies. The tail is short but broad at the base. Their colors are pleasing. The back and head are soft desert gray. The markings are in pastel shades of tan, brown, red, or yellow. The underparts are pale, yellowish gray. The overall colors are generally close to the predominant color of the soil. Color changes from light to dark (or reverse) can occur within a few minutes. Some of the species inhabit the deserts proper, where the sun, beating on the arid landscapes, produces ground heat that is almost unbearable to humans. Others enter mountainous areas and are found as high as 10,000 feet. Regardless of where they occur, there is a similarity in their habits. They hibernate in the fall by burying themseslves in the sand. They emerge in the spring. They feed on slow-moving, ground-dwelling insects. Their dragon-like appearance is formidable. But they are harmless creatures. This cache is placed in honor of Hornytoad. Happy Caching.
