Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches in and around the town of Wallingford. The well known crime writer Agatha Christie owned a house in the town and spent her later years there. All the caches in this series are named after her books or stories in them.

Just outside the village of Stadhampton are the remains of what was said in the 17th Century to be a ‘verie noble house’. Not much is left now but the Park is accessible to the public and has a number of information boards to help interpret what little remains.

This cache and clues are accessed via a couple of stiles and some rather bumpy grassland but with lots of space for kids to run around and explore. Be aware that at times there are livestock in the fields so dogs should be kept on a lead.

There is parking available in the centre of the village around the green, and also at the farm shop (during opening hours). The village also has a direct bus service from Oxford.

Wherever you start from, head for the coordinates listed above where you will find info board 2. Add together the individual digits of:-
a) the number of years the house was occupied by the Dormer family
b) the year the family stopped living here
c) the year William attempted to build a grand new house
Subtract 1 from the answer then multiply that result by 5 and you have A

Now find the Dovecot – how many sides has it got? Answer is B

Info board 5 will tell you the year when the Dormer family first owned Ascott. Multiply the digits together to get C

To find out D you need to count the number of small dormers in the roof of the Dovecot (info board 4 will help). Double the answer, then add to it the number of sides of the Ice-House which have windows in them.

Find info point 7. E is the number of letters in the first 3 words at the top of the board.

The cache is located at N51 C BE W001 D A

To get to it head towards the village between two lines of trees

The cache is a small loc n loc box
