Geocache Description:

The cache is on the main street. It is not in a hedge, fence or wall There is parking opposite the cache.

The crucifix at the junction to Studley Roger is a war memorial to 1st and 2nd world war Canadian and British soldiers. At the start of the 1st World war many of them were stationed here before being sent to the Somme. There was even a railway line. When I was a child we often found clay pipes, buttons, coins etc in the fields that had been ploughed. The village did not get electricity until the 1950s, and most cottages had outside earth toilets until the 1960s. The village was part of the Vyner estate that had to be sold off in the 1960s to pay off the gambling debts of Henry Vyner.
