The Jewelry District is a neighborhood on the south side of downtown Providence, RI. It once held many businesses manufacturing jewelry, and tthe Providence Jewelry Manufacturing Historic District in on the National Register of Historic Places.
A raised roadbed for Interstate 195 effectively severed it from downtown. Removal of the old Interstate 195 as part of the Iway Project will reunite this neighborhood with the rest of the city.
There's a long history of the area online at the www.jewelrydistrict.org web site.
The neighborhood now features the Providence Children's Museum, an animal shelter, some art supply stores (in a nod to the past), and several good restaurants.
This cache is located on a street near some active construction projects; there is meter parking nearby, but the Parking Enforcement staff can be swift and merciless. The container is a tiny, magnetic nano container that's too small for a pen, so please bring your own.
Note that the cache is available 24/7, but the area can be sketchy at night once all the professionals in the surrounding buildings go home.
