Now out thar on the Bar None thar’s a bridge that runs
over a culvert. And under that bridge, according to my great
granddaddy thar used ta live one big ugly troll. On the Bar None we
have run goats fer quite a piece and according to great granddaddy,
it were three of those goats that got rid of that troll for us.
So the story goes, one of the kids was a-wantin’ to cross
the bridge to get to some good forage on t’other side. He
went clip-cloppin’ over the bridge and that thar troll
shouted out “Who goes thar? Ah’m a’comin’
up thar to eat you. ” The kid responded that it were him, the
littlest billy goat gruff on the ranch and his big brother was
a’comin’ along so the troll oughter wait on him for a
bigger meal. That troll were a bit on the dense side. After all, he
coulda eaten the little one fer a snack and then went on to the
next one. But no, he just told that kid to get on over the
bridge.
Well, here comes the yearling goat and that thar troll accosts
him. Same question and pretty much the same answer. Dumb troll
figured he’d pass on the salad and wait fer the main course.
So the yearling went on across the bridge.
Finally along comes the granddaddy of all billy goats. This one
had a enormous set of horns and a real mean streak. Got that same
question from the troll and his reply were a mite different from
the others. “Ya wanta eat me? Well, come on up and give it
try,” were his comeback. So that thar troll scrambled up from
under that bridge and that big old billy goat gruff charged with
them gigantic horns of his'n, the troll flew up into the sky outta
sight and t’weren’t ever seen in these parts again.
