The icon for this cache is officially called “Mystery or Puzzle Cache”. Groundspeak defines that as :
The "catch-all" of cache types, this form of cache can involve complicated puzzles you will first need to solve to determine the coordinates. Due to the increasing creativity of geocaching this becomes the staging ground for new and unique challenges.
Some examples of mystery caches are:
Field puzzle where starting point is published coordinates. Generalization is that if cache is multistage and there are physical caches at each stage it is multi-cache, but if there are not physical caches, such as having to get numbers off a sign it would be a mystery cache and could be considered a field puzzle.
Puzzle cache where published coordinates are fictitious (or maybe parking coordinates) and solving the puzzle on the cache page will generate the correct coordinates. Some are fun and easy, others you have no idea what to do.
Challenge cache where cache is at published coordinates but you can not log the cache until meet challenge requirements
Off-set where published coordinates are close but must be adjusted by an offset or projection
Additional logging requirements (now no longer allowed) that required something in addition to finding the cache, such as posting a special picture.
This cache would be a traditional puzzle since the cache is not at the published coordinates.
There have been about 200 mystery caches in Delaware over the years and as of 4/1 there were 155 active mystery caches. The most prolific creators of Delaware mystery caches were rehobch (48), hostanut (28). MikeOtt (22), Horn229 (15), Beezele (8), 2B’s (7) and The Rappers (7)
Everything you need to solve the puzzle could be on this cache page or found on geocaching.com. There may not be a need to do any kind of Internet searching or cracking of a complex cipher. This puzzle is not complex. It is assumed that you will use the Degrees from the published coordinates, so this puzzle will generate the minutes (and decimal minutes) for the latitude and longitude. Because this is 10 values the mystery tribute could not be all inclusive.
Sorry if some mystery cache contributions were left on the cutting room floor such as rehobch’s Lewes historical and beach tours, hostanuts Brain Exercise series, and The Rappers and Beezele’s caches.
All of the GC numbers which are shown in parentheses are not part of the puzzle and are there only so cachers can check-out these caches.
There are several options for you. Its up to you to figure which ones to use to solve this puzzle. This puzzle is designed to lead you down the wrong path, yet make you say “DUH” when you solve it and get that green check thingy
All of the above is background and is not part of the puzzle
