Geocache Description:

WELCOME,
to Big Bugginigi Budginigi Hill.

View from top

Firstly, some facts about this hill -

LOCATION AND SIGNIFICANCE

Occurs in the Table Top Ranges physiographic region and represents steep hills of Silurian volcanics and residual colluvium. It has been moderately to extensively cleared, is very steep and is used for cattle grazing on native and improved pastures.

LANDSCAPE

Geology and Regolith
Siluro–Devonian acid volcanics that abut Table Top Ranges (Devonian sandstones and conglomerates) with banded rhyolite and tuff exposed on Budginigi Hill) and parts of
Table Top Creek.
There is significant rock outcrop on Budginigi Hill (>90%), but less on the hills alongside Table Top Range. At altitudes >400 m, these hills tend to be capped by Devonian sandstones and conglomerates. There are also significant areas of colluvial material that derive from a combination of Silurian volcanics and Devonian sediments. The regolith is poorly developed with minimal weathering
of bedrock.

Vegetation

Extensively cleared Eucalyptus albens (white box) and E. blakelyi (Blakely’s red gum) woodlands with E. melliodora (yellow box) on lower slopes, E. camaldulensis (river red gum) in drainage lines and E. macrorhyncha (red stringybark) mainly on areas capped by Devonian sandstones and conglomerates with southerly and southeasterly aspects. Isolated Brachychiton populneus (kurrajong) occur in midslope positions. The remaining native tree species occur in small stands or individually.

Now for the cache -

I have driven past this hill along the highway so many times and thought to myself, "Why isn't there a cache there", and decided it was finally time to do something about it.
The sign at the bottom of the hill has the incorrect spelling of the name Bugginigi. It has also noted that it is part of the Hume and Hovell walking track although I saw no track at all, and there is no defined path to the top.

The posted coords are for the the turn off from the Table Top Road to get to the hill. The hill be directly in front of you as you approach and the entry gate will be obvious.

After finding the cache (camo'ed 200ml systema), why not take a short walk to the trig point only 24 meters away on a bearing of 348 (magnetic) for the great views (as seen above).
