This old stone school house located on Nichols Road in Wolcott is thought to be the oldest building of its kind in New England.
The stone near the building has the date of 1825 on it, but records show that the building was built in 1821. Previously there was a wooden school house in this location that burnt to the ground. There is a very interesting article about the history of the school house on the Wolcott town history website. The building is now home to the Wolcott Historical Society. The grounds are well maintained and there is an informational board with articles located here also. Please be respectful of this area, cache is easily accessible, no need to go into the shrubbery or near any buildings. Not winter friendly, bring a pen.
