Peak off Piste Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

btonyb: Was up at the peak for some running with the Hash House Harriers and decided to look in on this one. As the last visitor with DNF has noted, the GZ has been destroyed :(

Its unfortunate, but will have to let this one retire.

Geocache Description:

The peak and the circular walk around it is crowded at most times. There are however a few spots of historical significance that dont get very many visitors. This multi cache will give you an opportunity to visit 2 such areas.

The co-ordinates given will lead you to a stone table with benches around it. Sit down for a few minutes, and look at the mountain to the south west direction. This green hill is known as High West and there are 2 caches near the top if you want to go walk up some stairs or climb up some rocks.

If you want something easier, lower your eyes a bit and look at the mound of earth in front of you with a fence on top. On the other side of the fence is a big wall. This area is known as the Butts. It was where targets were placed for shooting practice in military days long gone by. You may read more about this area here : (visit link)

While looking at the fence, you will notice some features.
1) Count the number of silver balls on top of the fence. Let this number be A
2) Cound the number of patterns (see picture) that can be found along the fence. Subtract 10 from that number. Lets call this final number be B

Now, let C=2 x A
let D=2 x B +1

The final cache is located at a place believed to be one of the shoting platforms described here : (visit link)

Final co-ordinates to the cache:
N22 16.BCB
E114 08.4DD

The cache is approximately 200m away. As there is no direct route to the cache, you will need to go back to the circular peak walk and find the staris (co-ordinates are given) to get down to the GZ.

The cache is big enough for coins and travellers and it is located along a very old and overgrown path. If you decide to continue walking along this path, you will find other exits along the way. Check Openstreetmap for the trace of the path.
