For many years now, the cub scouts from Pack 49 in Gulf Shores have been camping at Lake Shelby and exploring "Monkey Island". I am not real sure where the name came from (especially considering it is a peninsula, not an island) but it has stuck through the years. I have a sneaky suspicion that it was given its name by some previous scout leader who noted that all of his little monkeys liked to play out there.
I honor of this long standing tradition of camping at Lake Shelby and exploring Monkey Island, Pack 49's first year Webelos created this cache. While you are there, take the time to climb some trees, fish, swim, picnic, and take a boat ride. These are all things that growing boys love and need to do and it doesn't hurt the girls either 
.
Be advised, Monkey Island is known for its long spine cactus' that are low to the ground and love to break away from Mama cactus and hitch a ride with you. You are looking for a camouflaged medicine bottle, large enough from small trade items and trackables. BYOP. Below you will find park fees and creel limits. I am working on adding a couple more caches to this area, but it is already a great place to launch for the Gator Bait Series.
Please stay on the pre-existing trail going to this cache. You can find it at the pavilion near GZ.
