Geocache Description:

NOTICE: APRIL 11 - MAY 12 cache is available to find from 1:00 pm - dark! Park is closed other times due to Turkey Hunting!

Hike on.......

In 1925 the state acquired 200 acres known as the Oquawka Refuge. It contained the area's oldest pine plantation know as Milroy Plantation. Subsequent land purchases, beginning in 1941 & 1942 and a lease from the US Corps of Engineers have brought the forest to 2900 acres.

Throughout the forest winds The Lincoln Trail. On May 7, 1832 Captain Abraham Lincoln led by Col. Samuel Thompson and Maj. Nathan Bucmaster, rode with 2000 mounted militiamen on this trail to the mouth of the Rock River to fight in the Black Hawk War.

The park has recreation for picnicking, camping, boating, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, and snowmobiling. There are 15 miles of scenic roadways throughout the park. During the spring, great patches of black raspberries are all along the drives, just waiting for cachers to stop and enjoy!

Be sure to drive slowly, most roads are only wide enough for one vehicle at a time. Stop & park in designated areas. This is a very remote area, be careful of strange cars and wild animals.
