Geocache Description:

A cache at the island of Tinos.

The lunar landscape of Volax, due to the scattered rocks, is covering several kilometers of land. They have the size of soccer balls to several tens of meters long. To see them up close, walk behind the church in an alley, about three minute’s way. You will reach an opening with panoramic views of the surrounding parts. If you have time, follow the right path to the hill, there you will find most curious formations.
The rocks are almost exclusively granite.
The village's name is directly related to the geophysical environment. Volax is the lump of earth.
Four scenarios exist for the origin of these boulders.

1. The prevailing says is the result of volcanic eruption, which occurred 18 to 20 million years ago. The crater of the volcano probably located 2 km east of the village.
2. Under the second, the perfectly round stones formed by a meteorite fall, pieces of which fell in the surrounding areas.
3. The third view is several thousand years ago, the sea reaches that point. Thus, the rocks eroded by the salt and when the water retired, left them its current form. This view attempts to explain the existence of sand in the area. Such corrosion can see the beach "Livada".
4. Researches show that in the age of the Lower-Middle Miocene, i.e. 15-25 million before, the magma of the Earth penetrates the outer crust. During this time, the granite cooled from 500 °C to 300°C and becomes the first deformation. Gradually rising to higher levels of the Earth's surface and meets the existing metamorphic rocks of the region. The temperature continues to fall from 120 °C to enter the final cooling of the granite-about 11 million years ago.
Once the granite appears on the surface is affected by climate change (erosion, dissolution, disintegration), which transform every rock into soil, i.e. ground. So the weathered granite turned in ground-and even slow and difficult because it contains quartz. The giving of spherical shape during the disintegration is the formal normal form in such cases.

Architecture.
Because the landscape was filled with rocks and there was not enough space, many houses are built on them. The walls were built to include the rock.
The cache.
The cache is located near the village between these rocks.
