Chioggia: dal mito di Troia ai giorni nostri!
[ENG] Chioggia: from Troy’s mith to nowadays!
Chioggia è un’isola collegata alla terraferma da un lungo ponte e che “chiude” a sud il bacino della laguna di Venezia; di fronte alla città si apre uno dei tre accessi che permettono all’acqua (e alle navi) di poter entrare e uscire dalla laguna al mare Adriatico.
[ENG] Chioggia is an island linked to the mainland by a long bridge and it “closes” the venetian lagoon southern border; in front of the city there’s one of the three point of access which allow the water (and the ships) to go in and out from the lagoon to the Adriatic sea.
Se si viene a visitare Venezia e la sua laguna non si può davvero non fare una gita, anche breve, in questa antichissima e particolare città.
Antichissima perché, secondo la tradizione, pare sia stata fondata da uno dei figli di Antenore; questo personaggio viene descritto nell’Iliade come un saggio ed eminente abitante di Troia che tenta inutilmente di convincere il suo re a restituire Elena ad Agamennone per evitare la guerra che altrimenti si sarebbe scatenata. Dopo la caduta di Troia fugge in Italia con i suoi figli e proprio uno di questi, di nome Clodio, fonderà la città di Chioggia che da lui prenderà il nome.
E’ indubbiamente una città molto particolare, inoltre, perché sono presenti sia le caratteristiche urbane tipiche della città di Venezia (palazzi, calli, campielli, canali, ponti, ecc…) sia però anche quelle di una normale città della terraferma; molte di queste calli e campi infatti sono percorsi da auto e moto! Questo abbinamento dona a Chioggia un fascino decisamente caratteristico, soprattutto per chi ha prima visitato la città di Venezia.
[ENG] If you come to visit Venice and its lagoon, you can’t avoid to make a trip, even short, to this very ancient and very particular city.
Very ancient because, the tradition said, it appeared to be founded by one of the Antenore’s children; Antenore was described in the Iliad opera as a very wise and important Trojan citizen; he vainly tried to persuade his king to gave Helen back to Agamemnon in order to avoid the upcoming war. After the Troy fall he ran away with his family to Italy and one of those , named Clodio, will found the city of Chioggia, named after it.
A very particular city, moreover, because there are many architectural aspects that are the same as in Venice (palace façades, narrow streets, bridges, canals, etc…) as well as a normal city, so you can see cars and bikes travelling inside those tiny streets! This dual aspect gifts to Chioggia a really characteristic fashion, especially if you’ve been in Venice before coming here.
Due le cose che vi consigliamo di vedere: la colonna con il cosiddetto “Gatto di Chioggia” (ovvero una riproduzione del Leone di Venezia, ma di dimensioni più piccole rispetto a quello originale, e quindi da qui l’origine del nomignolo) posta in Piazzetta Vigo e la Torre dell’Orologio a fianco della Chiesa di S. Andrea, che contiene l’orologio più antico d’Europa.
[ENG] We suggest you to visit two things: the so-called “Chioggia cat” columun (a Lion of Venice marble reproduction but smaller than the venetian one, and so this is the origin of the nickname) located in Piazzetta Vigo and the Clock Tower on the S. Andrea church side, which has the European most ancient clock.
A Chioggia è presente un fiorente quanto antico mercato ittico legato alla tutt’ora diffusa attività della pesca, che rappresenta ancora oggi la prima risorsa economica degli abitanti.
[ENG] In Chioggia there is an as ancient as florid fish market still linked to the fishing activity that represents, even today, the primary economical resource of the Chioggia inhabitants.
Non potete invece andare via da Chioggia senza essere prima entrati in uno dei sui panifici ed aver assaggiato qualche dolce locale tipico (bissiole, pevarini, biscotti del pescatore, papini, ecc…).
[ENG] You can’t leave Chioggia before having entered inside of one the many bakery shops and having tasted some local biscuits (bissiole, pevarini, biscotti del pescatore, papini, etc…).
Tutti i giovedì mattina c'è un grande e affollato mercato lungo la via principale.
[ENG] Every Thursday morning there is a big and crowded market along the main street.
Ma come arrivare a Chioggia? Da Venezia, facendo una stupenda gita che vi farà partire da Piazza San Marco, facendovi percorrere tutta l’isola del Lido di Venezia prima e l’isola di Pellestrina dopo, con il battello dell’ACTV che vi farà scendere proprio in Piazzeta Vigo; oppure, sempre da Venezia, con il bus che percorre l’antica strada “Romea”. Per chi viene in macchina e vuole parcheggiare in centro deve cercare il parcheggio (a pagamento) sito sull’Isola dell’Unione. Sconsigliato il treno perché la stazione è parecchio distante dal centro e le corse sono molto rare.
[ENG] But… how to reach Chioggia? From Venice, doing a marvelous trip which starts from St. Mark and it makes you travel trough the Lido di Venezia island before and the Pellestrina one after, with the public boats and buses provided by the ACTV company, which make you hop off exactly in Piazzettaa Vigo; othervise you can take a bus going along the ancinet land route called "Romea". If you will come by car, the best place where you can park is located on "Isola dell'Unione" parking (not free but very close to the city center). Don't take the train: the station is far from the center and there are just a few trains.
NB: per la cache portatevi una penna o una matita, oltre a qualcosa di piccolo per scambiarlo con ciò che troverete dentro.
