The West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts, the West Virginia Division of Tourism, and the West Virginia Division of Culture and History have partnered to promote the ever growing sport of geocaching across our beautiful state through ExploreWV GeoChallenge. Their first promotion was the ongoing West Virginia Geocoin Challenge, which has over 600 registered geocachers participating and has awarded over 100 geocoins in the challenge's first seven months. ExploreWV's second series is the Main Street Challenge, launching April 12th.

The Main Street Challenge will consist of 12 caches located in each of West Virginia's registered Main Street communities. In each cache, there will be "surprise to find" gifts consisting of coupons and gift certificates to various businesses in each town as well as a collectable Main Street item.

For those geocachers who want more of a thrill, there will be a small challenge associated with the Main Street series. Similar to the Geocoin Challenge, the first 100 people to find and document the code word in each of the 12 caches will receive an ExploreWV Geo-Pack with a cache bag, keychain pen, and a notebook. IF YOU ATTEND THE EVENT, you will be given an official "Playcard" which includes a puzzle to be filled in on your journeys throughout the state. If you are unable to attend the event, you may still register and download a Playcard online at GeocacheWV.

This event will be held rain or shine. In the event of rain, festivities will be moved to the second floor of the parking garage. Along with this event, there will be refreshments, information booths, guest speakers, and door prizes.
