The site of the old Garsdale Friends Meeting House.
This is an easy drive-by with parking for one vehicle in the lay-by that was the route of the original road. The cache is rated 2.5 for terrain because it overlooks a vertical drop to the river, so anyone who suffers from vertigo might prefer not to look. Small children should not approach the edge to search - just in case! For many people, the rating will be lower. The meeting-house was built in the early 1690s by William Raw of Banks. There is now no trace of the building because it was demolished in 1913 and the stones were used to build the stable and washhouse at Clough View. The main road was then straightened and now runs over the site. No photograph has been found, but a drawing of the building is shown below. The last Quaker in Garsdale was Thomas Moore who died in 1901 and whose headstone can be found in the burial ground (see GC1256R ), but some Quaker principles and attitudes have been passed down.
