Geocache Description:

Did you know that Gansey Point had an entrance to the Morlock kingdom? This nano cache takes you right to the spot where the Morlock Kingdom meets our own. You can drive to within feet of the cache, there is easy parking and it's very easy terrain (though the cache itself is quite tricky). Quite a busy spot, may be better hunting for this one when the casual strollers and dog walkers are likely to be doing something else.

The Morlocks are a species who dwell underground in a troglodyte civilization. Their only access to the surface world is through a series of well-like structures that dot the countryside if you only know where to look.

Morlocks are humanoid creatures, said to have descended from humans. They are ape-like, with large eyes and gray fur covering their bodies. As a result of living underground, they have little or no melanin to protect their skin, and so have become extremely sensitive to light. This means their visits to the surface are invariably nocturnal, usually during new moon when the starlight is at it's lowest. They are frightened of open flame and good powerful torches.

The Morlocks' main source of food is the Eloi, or in the absense of Eloi, any good people of Port St Mary or unwitting tourists who stray here after dark.

When you approach the site, first you will hear the rumble of the Morlock underground machines. Then, if you look hard at the two street lights near the bench (the one's with the Legs of Mann symbols on), you will see that they are actually seated on two large chimneys that vent air from the Morlock kingdom below - put your ear to one and listen to the factories whirring underground. Many years ago, Port St Mary council tried to move the Morlock community, but when this failed, they decided to hide evidence of the Morlock city in order not to frighten the population.

Many people who I tell this to say I'm mad. They say that the Morlock Kingdom is just made up and that I am pulling their leg. Well, all I'll say to you is - you decide. And whatever conclusion you come to...make sure you enjoy the views of Port St Mary Harbour, Scarlett Point and Langness, and keep an eye out for the cormorants, oyster catchers and many other interesting sea birds that sit on the rocks here. Ssh though, tread carefully...and don't come after dark.
