In the Farmington Memorial Forest there is a site that keeps the memory of Lt. Vincent H. Core alive with a flag, memorial stone and plaque.
Lt. Core was killed when he crashed his P-47 fighter into the woods while on a training mission in 1945. The site in the woods is well maintained and signs along the trail point the way to the memorial .
Some geocachers may remember a cache being here years ago, it has been archived. We felt that it was important to have another cache put here to bring people to this site and reflect on this pilot who died.
There is parking available for one or two cars at 41.43.783 072.51. 946. Follow the trail to the crash site, there are also signs that lead the way there.
There is no need to move any rocks surrounding the memorial, the cache is not there!!
Am having hip replacement surgery and will be unable to replace logbook soon. Am asking for any cacher who looks for this one to bring some paper for a temporary log it would be much appreciated, this is too important of a memorial to have this cache archived. Thank you.
After finding the cache, cover well. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN.
