Geocache Description:


The site of Fort John Steel which was built in August of 1755 as part of a series of defenses created during the French and Indian War (aka the Seven Years War). This fort was named for the Presbyterian minister, John Steel, who also held the rank of Captain. The fort was placed here, in part, to protect the worshipers from unfriendly Indians. It is the oldest fort in Franklin County.
