A small cache within a riverside wetland along the Blackstone River. Downtown Pawtucket needs more caches! Please be advised that water levels within the wetland may become significantly higher after large rainstorms.
Slater Mill, a historic landmark site, was the site of the birth of the industrial revolution in the United States. Samuel Slater emigrated from England and built this mill in 1793. The mill was originally designed to spin cotton fibers using water power. The mill has a long history after Samuel Slater, but exists today as an important heritage site and museum.
The cache is located on the opposite side of the Blackstone from the mill, within a small patch of wetland. To access the wetland, you will walk across a grassy park to the railing. Nearby, you will see some stone stairs that lead down into the wetland. Trash is unfortunately commonplace.
The small wetland itself is constantly changing due to high water events, and it is interesting to note the wrack lines from previous storms. This site will allow you a very close but safe view of the Main Street Falls from an angle many people have never experienced.
The cache is not near the water! Please avoid the water's edge! BYOP!
Congrats to Ming for FTF!
