The Devil had fallen on hard times. He was sitting upon his throne, counting new souls. There were far too few. His inventory reflected that Texas was not providing her share. There were too few Texans entering his kingdom. The Devil assembled his Captains and asked what to do? The Devil Captain said those Texans were stout of heart and of highest moral character; they were just too difficult to recruit. The Devil said, “We’ll see about that!” He mounted his ornery steed and rode for the heart of Texas. El Dorado was straight in his sights. He rode through the streets, tempting and enticing Texans of all types. He left town empty handed but heard of Desperados out on Toe Nail Trail. He turned that evil beast toward the East and rode hard for the trail. TNT was a rough and wild place. Just the spot to find that wayward cowpoke. It wasn't long before Diablo found Sneaky Pete cowering behind an old oak. He whipped out his wicked rope and lassoed ole Pete. A life of debauchery along the Toe Nail Trail had made Pete hard and tough as nails. He was not about to give in without a fight. He grabbed that evil rope and gave a great heave. Diablo lost his mount and flew face first into the ground. Pete drug the Devil through the rough terrain and pulled him into a great prickly pear. Diablo released his grip on that foul rope, allowing Ole Pete to flee the grasp of that lasso. The Devil was in dire straights. His body resembled a pin cushion full of prickly pear spines and the pain sent him packin leavin that rope behind.
