Geocache Description:

VISITED THIS CACHE FOR THE SECOND TIME IN AS MANY WEEKS. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS BRIDGE IS CLOSE TO VECHICLE TRAFFIC ONLY. IT IS STILL OPEN TO PEDSTRIAN TRAFFIC EVEN THOUGH IT IS SIGNED THAT WAY. I CHECKED THE LOCATION OF THE CACHE AND IT IS STILL THERE. This cache is part of a series of caches placed at bridges that span the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in Clearfield County.

This bridge is the last one standing for a logging railroad operated by Col. E.A. Irvin (of the Civil Wars Pennsylvania Bucktail Regiment) and James Mitch. It was part of 17 miles of track that followed Curry Run and connected with the New York Central Railroad on the east side of the bridge. The construction of the bridge work was started in 1895. Besides this bridge, there were 10 smaller bridges that crossed Curry Run. There are still remenants of the abutments for some of these bridges along the old railroad grade. Please bring you own pencil or pen to sign the log. Park at the published coordinates or at the Curry Run Methodist Church parking lot. Thanks go to Mr. Bennett, author of a history book on Curry Run for the historical background.
