Susquehanna Bridges- Camp Corbly Traditional Geocache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Keystone: This geocache came to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either fix the problem or archive the listing, after picking up any geo-litter. See the maintenance section of the Geocache Hiding Guidelines. In the meantime, I've temporarily disabled this cache page.

Owner, if there is a good reason for a long delay in enabling this cache, do not contact me through email or the message center. Please post an update note log here on the cache page so that everyone will know what's going on. When the maintenance is completed, you can re-enable the listing by entering an "enable listing" log. Use an "Owner Maintenance" log to clear the "Needs Maintenance" attribute, if set.

I will check back in four weeks or so to be sure that the maintenance has been done, or that an explanation has been provided. If the problem persists, I will need to archive this cache page for lack of maintenance.

Regards,
Keystone

Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches at bridges that span the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in Clearfield County. Bring your own pencil or pen to sign the log.

With the exception of the covered bridge in McGee Mills, this is the oldest standing bridge in Clearfield County. It was built by the Beechcreek Railroad then sold to the Curry Run Lumber Company who erected it over the river in 1895. It is constructed of cast iron and wrought iron. The property on the western side and upstream of the bridge was home of a Church camp (Camp Corbly) that was constructed beginning in 1931. The camp opened April 1, 1940. During the summer of 1949, the Pittsburgh Steelers were housed at Camp Corbly for their training camp which was held very near to the camps location. Camp Corbly was closed in 1964 when the US Army Corps of Engineers built the Curwensville Dam, a flood control dam, which put the camp into the flood plain This should be a cache and dash. The bridge is single laned so if you decide to go out on the bridge be prepared to get off the bridge to make room for oncoming traffic. Traffic is very light on this bridge. Beware of mugglers as there may be people fishing in the area during the summer. Thanks to Mr. Bennett, author of a history book on Curry Run for the historical information.
