Built to celebrate King Chulalongkorns 34th birthday which was the 4th year of his reign. This cache is for the evening from about 6pm till 1am when there is a large "flashlight" market of secondhand stuff.
Every evening the streets are taken over by vendors who spread their wears out on the street and one walks up and down. It is pretty much all second hand stuff with a lot of Buddhist amulets being sold.
I am not sure if the term "flashlight market" came form Thailand or we just borrowed and copied the idea. The concept is a market on a darkish road. Want to see what you are buying clearly one needs a flashlight.
Once you like the look of what you are interested in it comes down to bargaining. My trick is to walk away once we seem to have reached a barrier saying thank you and smiling. On my way back around I find the price has reduced by 5% more and I buy.
