Geocache Description:

This nano cache (take a pen!) starts you on the Comet Trail which links up to the Ivanhoe Trail along the disused railway line. The path is in good condition and flat on this stretch and very popular with dog walkers. Parking on the road can make this a cache and dash. As you will be right near an appropriately named pub garden - superior stealth will be required! This route follows the route of the former Leicester to Swannington Railway, built by Robert Stevenson in 1832. It was the very first railway to be opened in the Midlands. The first engine along the tracks was called ‘Comet’. It was originally constructed to bring coal to Leicester, it was also a passenger line until 1964. This is the last bit that can be accessed before it reaches the live line at Desford. There is a lovely large plaque commemorating this line that can been seen here. **********CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PFAFFABOUTERS- FTF!!!! **********
