History of Hall

Welcome to Fraserwood Hall. This site marks the location of the Ukrainian National People’s Home Association of Taras Shevchenko. It was originally founded in the mid 1920’s as a library and over time began to be used as a theatre for local performances and evolved to what is now known as the Fraserwood Hall. The land on which the original facility is situated was originally donated by the Pomarenski family. Incorporated in 1931 as a non-profit organization, the first recorded minutes of the Ukrainian National People’s Home dates back to 1936.

Most records were kept in Ukrainian until the 1960’s. The original facility was replaced by the new Fraserwood Hall in 2005, but remained in use occasionally until early 2010. This building had undergone 7 additions over the years, with the last major additions taking place in the late 1970’s and mid 1980’s. Both this building, and the new Fraserwood Hall exist because of the foresight, hard work and dedication of the founding members and countless volunteers that served over the last 90 years.
