Geocache Description:

The Grade One listed church of St Mary, Leighton Bromswold

Next to the Lychgate at the entrance, there is the hundred stone, a place to pay taxes, and cast judgement

The church is not mentioned in the Domesday Survey (1086).

A chancel and an aisled nave were built about 1250, and large transepts were added to the nave some forty years later.

At the beginning of the 17th century the church was in a ruinous condition, and apparently around 1606 a renovations were started.

The work, however, was stopped for lack of funds, and for twenty years the church was unusable

Inside, there are 2 oak pulpits dating from around 1626

"If anybody would like to expand to this series please do,
I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the
Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
