Rockville Park Hike-n-CITO
Welcome to the 2nd Annual Rockville Park Cache in and Trash out!
The years hike has no Geocacher limit as discussed with the Park Ranger, but there is a limited amount of stuff to pick up on the hillsides and trails. There was about 6 of us last year, and had fun with the views and the hike. There is a lot more water this year, but the Event is later in the year than last year.
We will start in the main parking area and gather together for instruction, signing the Release of liability forms, and have some Coffee and Donuts. I will make the form available as a link so you can down load it ahead of time. I will also print out some forms so there are some for those who come at the last minute.
Ranger Teri will talk about the area, and our objective. There will be two locations we will be hiking to in a very beautiful part of the park.
I am asking that cachers be in good shape, but this time, anyone can come out, just stay off the steep stuff. The main trail is consistently a 2-2.5 star rating. The trails and the area we will be hiking may be steep and very slippery, so ensure you have sturdy shoes with good grip and ankle support. After all, this is Rockville park!
There will be earth caches along the way, and there are also approx 30 caches in the park.
I will bring some cheap gloves, so if anyone forgets them we will have some extras. I can bring some hand sanitizer as well.
Ranger Teri will supply Garbage bags and buckets for glass.
Things to bring on your own.
Camera
Gloves
Hiking shoes
Water
GPS
Sun glasses
light jacket or long sleeve shirt, something you can remove if it gets warm.
The gathering time will be at 0930-1000 AM at the entrance. This will give plenty of time for folks to show up and not be so early you can sleep in a bit. This is a rain or shine hike. The hike will start at 1000 AM, and an estimated 2-3 hours of cleanup, and a hike back, lets say 4 hours max. Could be longer could be shorter. Just depends on how much litter we find.
After the cleanup, Geocachers are welcome to continue hiking and caching to enjoy the hike and the views!
There will be places to stage the glass and trash we find, so we will not need to hike the trash and glass all the way out. The Ranger will pick up the trash staged on one of the intra-park maintenance roads.
The CITO Event is doing a service for the park, and the Entrance fee "permits" will be waved for the Geocachers who participate in the event. This means you do not need to buy one, and none will be issued.
I will update the cache page with any additional changes or info to the event. MR
