Geocache Description:

WWFM VIII
Bananaphones
in
Fort Wayne

June 4th, 2011
1:00 pm
Indiana is on Eastern time (with Ohio...)

We are hosting a "flash-cache" event to bring together geocachers and to introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.
To celebrate the World Wide Flash Mob VIII Event Cache, we are going to meet at Jefferson Pointe at 1:00 p.m. on June 4, 2011.

This event, however, will be quite unique, creative, be the first of it's kind (as far as we know of) and might be the best event cache you have EVER been to! (but don't get your hopes up...)

The event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one second longer. The event will begin at precisely 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4th.

You'll need to BYOB! (Bring Your Own Banana! - of course!)  If will help if you check out this YouTube video - Bananaphone video.

The event will be held at N 41° 04.392 W 085° 11.912 is in an open public space, at Jefferson Pointe in Fort Wayne. The event will  seemingly be highly organized and facilitated by volunteers. A minute by minute itinerary will eventually be  posted below. We will also have printed copies of this ultra-precise itinerary distributed at the event.

Saturday - June 4th, 2011 @ 1:00 pm

The Basic Idea:

You're heard of MEGA-EVENTS? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways.
  • This is a Flash Mob Event.
  • It will involve far less people.
  • It will last for only 15 minutes.
  • And the icon you get is different ( vs. ).
Flash Mobs (What is a flashmob?) have gathered for other reasons, but this one is all about geocaching.

The World Wide Flash Mob Event:

Dozens, if not hundreds, of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the geocaching.  Saturday, June 4th will be the day hundreds, if not thousands, of geocachers will mob together, around the world.

This Fort Wayne, IN flashmob event is one of many taking place around the world as part of the World Wide Flash Mob VIII. Come take part in this zany, 15 minute, geocaching event.

The Plan:
  • The event will begin precisely at 1:00 pm on Saturday June 4th, 2011.
  • The start of the Event will be marked by the announcement of "Bananaphone!"
  • The event will be held at the posted coordinates.
  • This event is Rain or Shine - it is Indiana Afterall, so there really is no chance of predicting the weather more than 5 minutes ahead of time. There are some stores available if inclement weather does occur.
  • Time will be kept by GPSr - Everyone's should be in sync from the satellites. An event card must be signed for this event to be logged online!

Stay tuned for further details regarding the schedule.
  • There will be a group photo taken to preserve this event in time just prior to the end of the event.
  • The event officially ends at 1:15 PM on the dot.
  • At precisely 1:15 the event materials will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace!!!
  • Geocachers are free to do what they want. There are plenty of caches nearby so go and enjoy the rest of the day

Put this Event on your Watchlist to keep an eye on updates and announcements!

4/4 Souvenir geocoins and event tags are available from this website - Coins and Pins.

FYI: The song, "Bananaphone" comes from children's singer Raffi...

FUTHER DETAILS:

UPDATE: May 29
We will begin at the designated time and then "wander" to the other end of the shopping area.  (

I have a job for you!
My Edna's Second Cache (GC1PY5J) is missing!  It was a black nano magnetic container hidden on a bench.  During the winter, ALL of the benches were pulled up and put into storage...  Now the benches are back, but I can't find Edna!  I would really like cachers to check out the benches during our 15 minute stroll, and see if we can find it.  HINT: It WAS under the seat on the left-hand side.

Don' forget your banana!
