Geocache Description:

Photobucket

This is a series of 20 caches in the Dedham Vale area. The route will take you on a walk of approximately 7.5 miles from Lawford Church where parking is available for free, past views of Lawford Hall, Lawford Dale and the River Stour and then under the railway line just after Manningtree station. The route then takes you along part of the St Edmund Way and along a track near to the path of the Dedham Old River. Following a short wander through Dedham itself, you’ll take part of the Essex Way back to Lawford Church. Simply follow the route marked in red above.

This route will take you mostly along footpaths, but there are a limited amount of short road sections (we’ve tried to keep these minimal). Also, please be aware that the return section of this route does take you over the main railway line. This section of track does get busy, but it is very straight at the crossing point so you can see a long way in both directions. Please take care when crossing. Additionally, this is the only location where dog-walkers may struggle with stiles. Nearly all stiles on this route are dog-negotiable, however at this point the only way to get from one side of the fence to the other is over the top, so its not very suitable for reluctant jumpers!

The caches range in size from nano up to regular. There is also a bonus cache somewhere en-route which is a large ammo storage box. You’ll find the co-ordinates for it written on the log book of just one of the other caches!

There are a few other caches you could do along the route should you wish to do so. I have marked these on the map above

This cache is a bison.
