Here Kitty Kitty...they're Back Mystery Cache

palmetto: Normally I'd give the CO a full 30 days to respond, but someone wants to place a new cache in the area, and the CO has neither logged a find nor logged on the site since 2015, and all of their owned caches have all been disabled and archived by reviewer going back to 2008.

Geocache Description:

Simple puzzle cache with a very short walk between the start and end. The cache is not on nor in the immediate vicinity of the cats, but the info you need to find it is.

Congrats to co-FTF thestrays and gpicard

Have been either coming to or living in St. Augustine for 44+ years now. The bridge of lions has always been a part of that experience. I remember getting my picture taken in front of the lions when I still had "lello" hair. (Oh, the good old days). Well for a few years now, the lions have been in storage/restoration while the bridge was "rebuilt". Well, the bridge is redone and the LIONS were recently returned to their rightful home. The posted cords are for the middle of the line between the two lions. Please don't follow your GPS to that point as you would get run over. Just go to one of the lions and start from there.

New container new cords new math new clues. Cache on. 9/2/13

Start. Find a lion. It would be great (not mandatory) if you would Take a pic of you with lion and GPSr and Post with log. (Bonus points if you phoon(think walk like an egyptian with one leg raised or just google it) while getting your picture taken.BEST PHOON AWARD to HUNT'IN AROUND . Way to get into the spirt of the thing! While there, note the dates on the Lions (not a plaque, but the base of the lions.

Find the cache. Using the original coords and the dates you found in step one do the following to get the new cords. Subtract .0xx from the original North coords where xx is the sum of the tens and ones from each date on the lions. (e.g. if the dates were 1735 and 1812 you would add 35 + 12 = 47 and subtract that from originals).

Add .0yy to the original West coords where yy is the second digit of the newest date minus the third digit of the newest date. Multiply the result times the last digit in the oldest date. (E.g using fake dates above 7 - 3 = 4 * 2 = 08 you would add 08 to the original cords.) Look here for a "traditional" cache with a log to sign. Enjoy the view of the carriages passing by here. Please use stealth to retrieve the cache.

Check digit for stage two is 9.
Add the digits for the new coords found after the two decimals (6 digits total) and you will get a two digit number between 20 and 30..
Add those together and you get a 9 if you did this correctly.

Some have said the check digits can't work, because 6 digits could never total between 20 and 30. So an example, just in case. Lets say the final coords are N 29 53.732 and W 081 18.346 (they're not, but let just say.) Take the 732 and 346 and add the digits together ... 7 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 6 = 25... add these two digits together ... 2 + 5 = 7. The check digit would be 7. Now there are other ways to get the correct check digit and still have the wrong cords, but by using the check digit, many possibilities have been eliminated.

I also highly recommend walking to the top of the bridge and enjoying the view from there. Hint applies to stage two only. Please respect the lions and their immediate area. The cache is not on them or within the curved walls that surround them. They are old and like all old things, they should be respected and enjoyed.

Happy Hunting.
