Amazing white hillside EarthCache

Národní prírodní památka Bílé stráne u Litomeric v CHKO Ceské stredohorí je prevážne západním smerem orientovaná opuková strán, která se zvedá od levého brehu Pokratického potoka. Chránené území má celkovou rozlohu 3.54 ha a nachází se v nadmorské výšce 286 až 335 metru na severu od Pokratic, místní cásti mesta Litomerice. Chránené území zde bylo vyhlášeno již roku 1954 s tím, že jeho cást byla chránena již od roku 1929, jedná se tak o jednu z nejstarších chránených lokalit v severních Cechách.   

Bílé stráne / White hillside:

Svuj název území dostalo od barvy místní pudy, která je obohacena erodovaným geologickým podkladem, který je tvoren druhohorními slínitými vápenci - tzv. zvonivou opukou. Slínovce jsou více méne zpevnené horniny, tvorené predevším z jílové a kalciumkarbonátové složky v nejruznejším pomeru, v nekterých oblastech s prímesí složky píscité. Slínovce z hlubších vrstev krídového souvrství se dostaly na povrch v místech tektonických zlomu nebo byly obnaženy erozí vrchních vrstev. Na techto substrátech jsou vyvinuty surové slínité nebo rendzinovité pudy belavé nebo bílé barvy, které jsou specifické tím, že témer nepodléhají degradaci (vyluhování uhlicitanu). Svah údolí je prirozene denudovaný a erodovaný, nekolikrát zde došlo k menším sesuvum pudy a opakované sukcesi svahu. Díky intenzivnímu výparu a nízké propustnosti substrátu dochází na techto lokalitách k lokálnímu zasolování ci zamokrováni. Na úpatí bílých stráne lze pak nalézt druhy halofilní, vlhkomilné i teplomilné. Svah údolí je prirozene denudovaný a erodovaný, nekolikrát zde došlo k menším sesuvum pudy a opakované sukcesi svahu. Celá strán je velmi teplá. Nalézá se zde velmi pestrá smesice xerotermních bylinných spolecenstev s výskytem mnoha vzácných a ohrožených druhu teplomilných a suchomilných rostlin a živocichu.

V této lokalite bylo zjišteno celkem 475 druhu rostlin a nalézají se zde vzácné a chránené orchideje. Dále zde má významné zastoupení zejména teplomilný hmyz a vzácní mekkýši.

General information:

National Natural Monument White hillsides are predominantly oriented toward the west argillite hillside that rises from the left bank of the river identifying nature. Protected area to total area of 3,24x.xx ha and is situated at an altitude of 286-335 meters north of Pokratice, part of the town of Litomerice. Protected areas there was already announced in 1954 that his part was protected since 1929, so this is one of the oldest protected areas in northern Bohemia.

Geology and the hillside describtion:

Its name came from the color of the local soil that is enriched eroded geological base, which consists of Mesozoic limestones, called ringing marl. Marl is more or less hard rock, consisting mainly of clay and calcium carbonate various components in the ratio in some areas with sandy admixture component. Marls from the deeper layers of the Cretaceous strata came to the surface in areas of tectonic faults, or were stripped by erosion of the top layer. On these substrates are developed raw/untreated off-white land or white colors that are specific to almost not degraded (leaching of carbonates). The slope of the valley is naturally eroded, there have been several small landslides and slope repeated succession. Due to intensive evaporation and low permeability of the substrate occurs local wetland ecosystem and saline at these sites. At the foot of the white slopes can then find the species of halophilic, thermophilic and hydrophilic. It is located in a very diverse mix xerothermal herbal associations with the occurrence of many rare and endangered species of thermophilic and xerophilous plants and animals.

 
In this area were found 475 species of plants are found here and the rare and protected orchids. Furthermore, there is a significant representation of particular thermophilic insects and mollusks rare.

Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of the minerals calcite and/or aragonite, which are different crystal forms of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃). Marl or marlstone is a calcium carbonate or lime-rich mud or mudstone which contains variable amounts of clays and aragonite.
