This Challenge uses the 1st Edition Salem Thomas Guide street guide and requires you to have found at least one cache on every map page referenced in the guide.
During this Challenge you will have visited many cities and towns including Hubbard, Woodburn, Gervais, Mt Angel, Silverton, Keizer, Salem, Dallas, Monmouth, Independence, Turner, Aumsville, Stayton, Jefferson, Millersburg, Adair Village, Albany, Corvallis, Philomath, Tangent and Lebanon.
This challenge will also take you into Marion, Polk, Benton and Linn counties for those cachers also attempting Counting Counties in Oregon. Be sure and log the appropriate size caches for this challenge.
Some basic guidelines follow:
1) The posted coordinates are the actual coordinates for the cache.Feel free to visit the cache to swap Travel Bugs and Geocoins but you must satisfy the requirements of the cache page to log a find.
2) Only physical cache types with a log will count towards the challenge –no virtual, event, or Earthcaches will be allowed. Archived caches are eligible if properly logged before they were archived.
3) If a multi-stage cache, puzzle cache, etc, starts on one page and finish's in another or out of any referenced page, the posted coordinates for the cache on geocaching.com will determine which page the cache resides on and will be the page we use.
4) The 1st Edition is the only version published and will remain in use til another version is needed.
5) Please ask any questions before logging the cache – There is bound to be some problems eventually but we reserve the right to the final say in all issues logging this cache.
6) All cache finds that satisfy the above requirements may be used i.e past finds count.
Note: Unlike the The Portland Thomas Guide, The Salem Thomas Guide has coordinate grid-lines on every page so you can cross check with the cache coordinates to ensure proper page credit.
In order to claim this cache, you need to find or place a cache in each page of the guide. Those pages are:

To log this cache as a find, you must create a bookmark list showing each page number and the cache you are using as a find or that you have placed as a hider. Please insert the page number before the cache name. This will put the list in page number order and will help us verify your list. Place the date of your find on the info line. If using one of your own cache hides for a page, place HIDDEN at the end of the date published. Also place this challenge cache on your list and make the list public so that it shows up on the cache page.
If you are not a Premium Member and cannot make a bookmark list, please send an email with the page and cache info in the format used above to our email on Geocaching.com and we will verify your list that way.
Upon completion of your list, please post a note to the cache page requesting list verification. You may go find the final cache and sign the log, but no logging of the cache on Geocaching.com will be allowed until after your list has been verified.
Parking for the final is plentiful but at certain times of the year, the lots can charge to park and the side streets can be full also. A parking coordinate is available and is within 1 block.
We have an unactivated geocoin for the FTF. After satisfying the requirements and logging the cache, arrangements will be made for prize delivery.
A BIG Thank You to Mark~Wendy for providing the cache container!
Note 12/28/11 : We get a lot of questions about where to find a Salem Thomas Guide and have found a place where you can get one fairly cheap. New and used. Its a website that is named after a big river in South America. The place where we bought ours originally went out of business and have not seen anymore copies locally.
Note 7/25/12 : Thanks chamois-shimi & special K for pointing out the difference in the coordinates in the guide from those listed on Geocaching.com. Sorry for making you jump through unnecessary hoops.
